Why we exist

The picture survived
three moves.
The frame shouldn't be the weak link.

Big-box frames are stapled-together pine and acrylic that yellows in a year. We build the kind your grandkids will inherit — solid hardwood, joined and pinned by hand, UV-shielded glass, and conservation-grade matting. Same price as the gallery downtown, none of the wait.

01

Solid wood. No exceptions.

White oak, walnut, maple, cherry — milled from FSC-certified North American hardwood. Joined with mortise corners, not staples.

02

Conservation glass, standard.

99% UV protection and anti-reflective coating on every frame, not a $90 upgrade. Museum glass available for the heirlooms.

03

Seven days, door-to-wall.

Upload tonight, hung by next weekend. Free, fully insured shipping with hanging kit and a clean unboxing your mother-in-law will compliment.

Our workshop

The shop

Twelve framers,
one old mill.

Every frame is hand-finished in our 1890s mill along Salt Creek. We employ twelve full-time framers — most of them third- or fourth-generation woodworkers — and we pay them, not algorithms, to obsess over corner joins.

Materials

What goes into a Legacy frame.

A.

The Wood

FSC hardwood,
milled and joined
in Illinois.

Kiln-dried North American hardwood — white oak, walnut, maple, cherry — milled to a museum profile, then joined with mortise corners and pinned, not stapled.

B. The Glass

99% UV-blocking,
anti-reflective.

Conservation glass on every frame. Museum-grade available for delicate originals.

C. The Mat

Acid-free,
4-ply cotton.

Beveled by a 5-axis CNC, then hand-checked. Twelve color options, none of which fade.

D. The Print

Archival giclée
on cotton rag.

200-year archival rating. Printed on Hahnemühle cotton with pigment inks — no fade, no shift.

E. The Backing

Sealed dust cover
+ French cleat.

Climate-stable foam-core, sealed paper backing, and a level-cleat hanging system rated to 75 lbs.

F. The Guarantee

If it warps,
fades, or breaks —
we rebuild it.

For life. The first generation of Legacy frames is now ten years old. None have come back.

What people say

12,000+ customers.
4.9 stars.

"I priced this against the gallery near my house. Same wood, same glass, half the price, and a week instead of six. I framed eight photos for what one would've cost."
Anika Patel · Brooklyn, NY
"Framed my late grandmother's only formal portrait. The packaging alone made me trust them. The frame itself — heavy, perfectly mitered — made me cry."
Marcus Hill · Asheville, NC
"As a photographer, I've used every framer in the city. Legacy is the only one I trust with client deliveries now. Clean install, perfect mats, and the lifetime guarantee closes deals."
Rachel Okafor · Portland, OR

Common questions

Asked &
answered.

Don't see your question? Email a real human at hello@getlegacyframes.com — we reply within four hours.

How long does a custom frame take? +

Seven business days from order to delivery, anywhere in the continental US. Most orders ship in three. Need it faster? Add rush production at checkout for 48-hour turnaround.

What if my photo is low resolution? +

We auto-check every upload and email you before we print if a smaller size would look sharper. Phone photos look great up to 18×24 in our experience.

Can I frame something I already have? +

Yes. Order a frame in your art's size, and we'll send a fully assembled frame with easy back-loading. For fragile originals, our concierge service ships a custom box and handles everything in-shop.

What sizes do you offer? +

Anything from 4×6 to 40×60. We mill to custom dimensions at no extra cost — type your exact size in checkout.

How does the guarantee work? +

Forever. If your frame warps, the mat fades, the glass cracks, or you simply don't love it — we'll rebuild and reship at no cost. Just email us with a photo.

Do you ship internationally? +

Canada, UK, and the EU — yes, with a flat $40 shipping fee. Everywhere else, email us and we'll quote it.
